Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA)

  • Was founded in 2002 at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta.
  • Enrolls 32 freshmen per year, from the entire Santa Barbara community, for a total of 128 students.
  • Is a four-year integrated course of study in physics, computer science and engineering design.
  • Culminates in the design and construction of a robot during the senior year, which competes on the national stage.
  • Is run as a small business by the senior students, who learn skills for their future success.
  • Includes outreach to younger students, helping to boost their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The combination of academics, project-based technical experience and teamwork gives students the competitive edge and true mastery of the skills necessary to enter the workforce and pursue post-secondary education.

Elings Center for Engineering Education

The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy has been awarded a $3 million matching grant from the State of California for the construction of a new 12,000 square foot facility on the Dos Pueblos campus. The Elings Center for Engineering Education will include laboratories furnished with industry-grade machines and electronic instruments, classrooms for computer and design instruction, and manufacturing space for robot construction and testing. Most importantly, the building will accommodate an expansion to 400 students for the Engineering Academy, substantially broadening its impact.
